The landscapes of the city have created many challenges to civil
construction, particularly in the recent building boom. This tour will start
with a drive upstream to Seventeen Mile Rocks, to an innovative water recycling
facility. This will also commence our geomorphological overview of the city, in
particular the role of the Brisbane River. Participants will then travel
downriver, through the city to historical Newstead Park, to discuss
contaminated land issues.
In the afternoon, the tour will move out onto the
coastal floodplain to look at the impacts of soils on the massive
infrastructure building program in the area.
